Definition: Edouard Piette was a French archaeologist of the 19th century, who excavated at the paleolithic cave sites of Altamira, Mas d'Azil, and Brassempouy. An early version of today's modern archaeologists, Piette startled his colleagues in 1889 by arguing that the reindeer bone he found in the deposits of Mas d'Azil represented evidence of the domestication of these animals.
