Nicholas Peterson

By K. Kris Hirst, About.com

Definition: Australian archaeologist Nicholas Peterson, with his colleage C. White, conducted archaeological research in Arnhem Land, applying ethnographic research on aboriginal tribes in Cape York. Their investigations conducted in the late 1960s argued that what appears to be cultural variability in the artifacts and features at different sites could have resulted from a single group adapting their methods to the situation.
